If you got an F on your In-Class Summer Reading Essay, I changed it to a C. Your essays didn't get magically better, but this way, the first essay doesn't trash your grades for the semester.
People with low grades need to fix them quickly, mostly by fixing their essays. Once the quarter is over, those scores will be frozen. In the interests of time, I will not be flagging every single grammar mistake--outside of incomplete sentences, run-ons, titles, & capitals. I will still write comments & how you write will still affect your grade. You will use those comments to do the follow-up assignment. We will discuss class-wide issues when all the essays are graded. Activities
Monday- Wednesday: Watch Tarzan. Listen for themes (author's messages to us about life). Share your ideas with the class: "I think the theme is _____________ because ______________. For example, __________________." Wednesday-Friday are a little in flex, depending on how long the movie takes. We will have an IR Day and a IR Report How-To at some point this week. Homework
I put a button for it under 10H Resources. Scroll down to find directions for the assignment & an answer key to compare to if you can't compare with another student.

The surgery went well. They put Novocaine in my hand like the dentist does and it tingled all night. Today it's a little achy & itchy, but not too bad. I have a big bandage on my hand for the next two weeks. I rested up yesterday so I can focus on you guys today.
I'm hoping to get your essays graded, finally. I decided to give you 25% credit if you turned in an un-edited draft for your final draft Hypothesis. Once you get it edited (meaning flag-free), I'll grade it for real and update your score. You will be able to tell that you still need to edit it because the Turnitin score is 15/50 and I put a comment on it that says "Flags." I am deleting any GradeMark flags that I completely disagree with. I am leaving the ones that show a problem in the sentence, but are not exactly right. Final drafts should get re-submitted to the original assignment. After I grade it for real, and you see a score pop up in PowerSchool, go back through and deal with all of my comments. At that point, submit it to Revision 1 l Summer Reading Essay . I will give you a grade based on how well you fixed the problems. This is the best way for you to develop as a writer--doing the same thing over and over doesn't help you get better. You have to figure out what you did well & what you need to work on, then focus on that in particular. Tuesday
